Liverpool come from behind against Fulham in League Cup semi-final

The hosts initiated their offensive early on with a shot from Curtis Jones, which was saved by Bernd Leno. However, it was the Cottagers who managed to score first with their first real opportunity.

Willian skillfully maneuvered through the box and unleashed a precise strike past Caoimhin Kelleher. This came after Virgil van Dijk misjudged the ball's trajectory, allowing Andreas Pereira to set up his fellow countryman.

Jurgen Klopp's frustration grew evident in the subdued atmosphere of Anfield. Van Dijk received a harsh yellow card for colliding with Pereira, and Klopp was left fuming when referee David Coote failed to play advantage after a foul on Alexis Mac Allister.

Joe Gomez attempted to equalize on his 200th Liverpool appearance but missed the target from a distance just seconds before halftime.

The second half saw a dominant display from Liverpool, with Ryan Gravenberch missing a chance after weaving his way into a shooting position. Antonee Robinson then made a crucial block to deny Diogo Jota's effort.

In an effort to break down Fulham's resilient defense, Klopp introduced Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, bolstering his attacking options by replacing Gravenberch and Harvey Elliott.

Marco Silva's side sought a second goal on the counter-attack, but Bobby Decordova-Reid opted for an individual effort down the right-hand side instead of passing to the unmarked Pereira inside the box.

Liverpool eventually found the equalizer, albeit in unfortunate circumstances for Fulham. Jones took a shot from outside the area, which deflected off Tosin Adarabioyo before beating Leno.

Shortly after, Liverpool's attacking prowess came to the forefront as Jota and Nunez combined brilliantly to set up Gakpo for a clinical finish at the near post. In just four minutes, Silva's men saw their lead vanish.

Liverpool's recent victory, although not their most impressive performance, serves as a significant blow to their rivals and a foreboding sign.

This win extends their unbeaten streak to seven games across all competitions, with their only recent defeat being a 2-1 loss to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in a meaningless UEFA Europa League match.

Fulham, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on a positive result once again at Merseyside. Despite their close efforts, they suffered a 4-3 defeat in this Premier League fixture on December 3rd against Klopp's side.

However, Silva's team remains firmly in contention as they approach the second leg at Craven Cottage on January 24th.
