Krejcikova knocked out of Queen's by Sramkova

Krejcikova triumphed over Italy's Jasmine Paolini in a three-set match during last year's Wimbledon final, securing her second Grand Slam title.

However, the 29-year-old's aspirations of replicating that remarkable achievement were dashed by her 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Slovakia's Sramkova in the first round of the Wimbledon warm-up event in London.

This loss has added to a disappointing streak for Krejcikova since her victory at the All England Club.

She was eliminated in the second round of the recent French Open and was unable to compete in January's Australian Open due to a back injury that sidelined her until May.

Krejcikova, currently ranked 17th in the world, also faced defeat in the second round of the US Open during the last Grand Slam of 2024.

World number 41 Sramkova is set to compete against former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the second round at Queen's.

Raducanu, who famously clinched the title in New York as an 18-year-old qualifier in 2021, made an impressive start to her grass-court singles season, decisively defeating Spain's Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday.

The British star disclosed prior to Queen's that she continues to experience back spasms that have hindered her throughout a challenging 2025 season.

Nevertheless, Raducanu appeared to be in excellent form as she comfortably overcame Bucsa, much to the delight of the British fans in the Andy Murray Arena.

"I must say I was quite locked in today," the world number 37 said. "I'm very pleased with my performance.

"I was a little bit nervous at the beginning. It's my first time playing on this court at Queen's and the support is incredible.

"I just want to stay here playing as many matches as I possibly can."

In the inaugural women's action at Queen's since 1973 - a tournament that has exclusively featured ATP men's events for 52 years - Raducanu was accompanied in the second round by two fellow compatriots.

Katie Boulter triumphed with a score of 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-4 against Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic.

Heather Watson secured victory over world number 27 Yulia Putintseva with a score of 6-4, 6-3, earning her a match against former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
