Luton Town 1-2 Manchester United: Hojlund double sees Red Devils edge spirited hosts

Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over Luton with two quick goals from Rasmus Hojlund in a thrilling Premier League match at Kenilworth Road on Sunday. This win narrowed the gap to the top four teams to just five points.
Kenilworth Road had not hosted a league meeting with the Red Devils since 1992. However, within the first minute of the match, the home fans were left regretting the day.
Amari'i Bell's misguided attempt to deal with a high ball unintentionally allowed Hojlund to score after just 37 seconds, making it United's fastest-ever Premier League away goal. Hojlund also became the youngest player in competition history to score in six successive games.
With his confidence soaring, he doubled his tally in the seventh minute by skillfully redirecting Alejandro Garnacho's volley into the far corner with his chest.
In the opening 10 minutes, Rob Edwards' team was overwhelmed, but with the support of their passionate home crowd, the Hatters quickly regained their composure and pushed United back. By the 15-minute mark, the hosts had reduced the deficit in a stroke of luck, as Carlton Morris headed home after Ross Barkley's shot deflected into his path.
During this period, Luton was truly dominant and continued to be until halftime. However, they failed to level the scores despite several big chances for Cauley Woodrow, Alfie Doughty, and Morris. Woodrow and Casemiro were both fortunate to avoid red cards for late challenges, having already been cautioned.
At halftime, Erik ten Hag must have been relieved to see his side regroup after a sloppy final half-hour of the first period, where they gave up possession easily.
The Dutchman also had to deal with the loss of left-back Luke Shaw to injury before the break. Showing his dissatisfaction with the team's performance, he substituted both Casemiro and Harry Maguire ahead of the second half.
Despite United's vulnerability in defense, their counter-attacking threat had returned. Kaminski made a strong save to deny Marcus Rashford, while Albert Sambi Lokonga heroically denied Bruno Fernandes with an open goal.
The visitors, however, missed several opportunities to restore their two-goal lead, with Garnacho failing to get a clean shot away after being released by Rashford. Hojlund and Fernandes also squandered chances to secure the victory.
Nevertheless, United held firm and secured their fifth consecutive away victory, a feat they hadn't achieved since October 2020.
