Magic defeat Celtics 113-96 to extend winning streak to six games

Moritz Wagner showcased an impressive performance, contributing 27 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a decisive 113-96 victory over the Boston Celtics in the NBA's inaugural In-Season Tournament on Friday, marking their sixth consecutive win. Paolo Banchero, with 23 points and seven rebounds, played a crucial role as Orlando finished group play at 3-1. Despite an initial setback against Brooklyn, Banchero emphasized the team's newfound focus, turning the tournament around.

With the Magic aiming for a spot in the knockout rounds, the outcome of the Boston-Brooklyn clash will determine whether Orlando secures the Group C win or qualifies as a wild card. Notably, Orlando concluded with a plus-22 point differential, outshining the Nets at plus-8 and the Celtics at 0.

Jayson Tatum led Boston with 26 points, but Jaylen Brown struggled, making only 2 of 16 shots after a strong start. The Celtics, previously boasting a 12-3 record, faltered with just 7 of 29 from beyond the arc and were outrebounded 48-31.

Moritz Wagner, outshining his brother Franz, took charge in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points and extending the Magic's lead. Jalen Suggs contributed with two 3-pointers during a pivotal 17-0 run, turning the tide in Orlando's favor.

Boston faced challenges with Kristaps Porzingis leaving due to calf tightness and Jrue Holiday's absence. Despite setbacks, Tatum emphasized the need to find solutions, stating, "We can’t use that as an excuse for why we didn’t win the game. We’ve still got to figure out a way to get the job done.”

The Magic's bench, led by Moritz Wagner and Cole Anthony (16 points, six assists), played a pivotal role, accumulating 57 points. Looking ahead, the Celtics will host Atlanta, while the Magic will face Charlotte on Sunday night.
