Mainz 05 3-0 Borussia Dortmund: Relegation-threatened hosts thrash Dortmund to boost survival hopes

Mainz stunned Borussia Dortmund 3-0 at the Mewa Arena in the Bundesliga, extending their unbeaten streak to eight games and crucially lifting Die Nullfunfer above the relegation play-off spot.
Dortmund made ten changes after securing a place in the UEFA Champions League final in midweek, and it showed in the first half.
Nadiem Amiri hit the crossbar with an early free kick, but three goals in 10 minutes put Mainz well ahead, with Leandro Barreiro opening the scoring after Silvan Widmer found him with a neat cutback.
Lee Jae-Sung then scored a quick brace, capitalising on Alexander Meyer's horror pass out before slotting in another cutback from the right side.
Mateu Morey, who was having a nightmare defensively, came close to equalising for Die Schwarzgelben, but his curling effort was well saved by Robin Zentner, leaving the visitors three goals down at halftime.
Edin Terzic made three half-time substitutions, including some of the regular cavalry, in an attempt to claw back the deficit, and they thought they had pulled one back seven minutes later.
Youssoufa Moukoko barely had a chance in the first half, but he tucked the ball away with a clean finish, only to have the goal ruled out for offside.
Ultimately, Bo Henriksen's Mainz had done the damage in the first half, and there was little goalmouth action at either end in the latter stages as Dortmund failed to respond, abruptly ending their six-match winning streak at the Mewa Arena.
Nonetheless, they will finish fifth and look forward to Champions League football again next season, with their attention clearly focused on their upcoming final against Real Madrid.
