Man Utd survive huge Coventry scare to progress to FA Cup final

Manchester United advanced to their 22nd FA Cup final in record-breaking fashion, overcoming Coventry City in a thrilling match that ended 4-2 on penalties after extra time at Wembley Stadium. Victor Torp's 121st-minute goal was disallowed for offside, adding to the drama of the match.

Mark Robins, the manager of Coventry City, is often praised for his role in saving Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure at Manchester United. A victory for his team in this match would have put more pressure on Erik ten Hag's position as the Red Devils' manager.

Despite a strong start from Ten Hag's side, it was Manchester United who took the lead midway through the first half. Scott McTominay scored his 10th goal of the season after a well-placed cross from Diogo Dalot found him unmarked in the box.

Coventry struggled to respond until Josh Eccles made a promising run into the box, only to be denied by a crucial interception from Dalot. Just before halftime, Harry Maguire extended United's lead with a powerful header from a corner taken by Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes himself came close to scoring with a looping effort that narrowly missed the target. However, he did find the back of the net with a deflected shot shortly before the hour mark, showcasing his skill and precision.

Coventry managed to pull one back through Ellis Simms, who scored his 19th goal of the season with a clinical finish from a cross by Fabio Tavares. Despite the late goal, Manchester United held on to secure their spot in the FA Cup final.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper was then forced into a magnificent save to deny Victor Torp's powerful shot, but Coventry managed to equalize United's lead in stoppage time when Wan-Bissaka was penalized for a handball from a Luis Binks cross. Haji Wright confidently converted the resulting penalty, sending the thrilling semi-final into extra time.

The pace of the game remained intense in extra time, with Fernandes and Simms hitting the woodwork before Torp seemed to have completed a remarkable comeback by scoring from Wright's cross, only to be ruled offside by the narrowest of margins.

As penalties loomed, the match reached its climax when Ben Sheaf missed his spot-kick, allowing Rasmus Hojlund to score his penalty and secure United's spot in the final by the narrowest of margins.

United will face Pep Guardiola's team once again in the final at Wembley, with a chance to avenge last year's 2-1 defeat. Based on their strong second-half performance, it will require a bold prediction to bet against United correcting the mistakes of the past.
