Manchester City 2-2 Crystal Palace: Palace come from two goals down to add to City's woes

Crystal Palace rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Michael Olise scored a stoppage-time penalty.

The draw kept City, who were missing league-leading scorer Erling Haaland due to a foot injury, in fourth place in the table with 34 points after a run of six games with only one win.

Palace are 15th with 17 points, eight points above the relegation zone.

With the visitors trailing 2-0, Jean-Philippe Mateta scored from close range in the 76th minute to bring them within one goal.

After Mateta was taken down by Phil Foden, Palace were awarded a penalty in the 95th minute, to boos from the Etihad crowd. Olise slotted the ensuing penalty past City keeper Ederson.

In the 24th minute, City's Jack Grealish scored for the third consecutive Premier League match for the first time in his career, collecting the ball from Foden and placing it to the left of keeper Dean Henderson. A lengthy VAR review narrowly ruled it in favor.

In the 54th minute, City doubled their lead when the ball was bundled through to Lewis, who thumped it into the bottom left corner.

City had 19 shots to Crystal Palace's two, keeping Henderson busy in only his second game back from a thigh injury suffered in September.

Julian Alvarez had a great chance with a glancing header that Henderson did well to tip around the post, and Josko Gvardiol got in behind Palace's defense for a one-on-one but couldn't beat Henderson.

Any extended absence of Haaland will be a significant blow to City. With 14 goals this season, the league's leading scorer has missed two consecutive Premier League games due to a stress reaction, but Guardiola is hopeful that he will be able to return for the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia next week.

On Tuesday, City will face Urawa Reds in the Club World Cup semi-finals. The final is set for Friday.
