Manchester City 4-1 Ipswich Town: Haaland nets hat-trick as Cityzens come from behind to defeat visitors

Ipswich Town faced a harsh reality upon their return to the Premier League, suffering a 4-1 defeat against Manchester City. This marked the first occasion since the 2006/07 season that they commenced a league campaign with two consecutive losses.
As reigning Premier League champions for four seasons and facing last season's Championship runners-up, the outcome seemed predetermined if one were to analyze the match on paper.
However, in a delightful twist for Ipswich, the game is played on grass, and they managed to take an unexpected lead at the Etihad. Summer signing Sammie Szmodics was played through on goal and successfully directed a shot through Ederson's legs.
Their elation was short-lived, as Leif Davis committed a foul on Savinho within the penalty area, allowing Erling Haaland to convert the penalty and equalize swiftly.
Regrettably for the Tractor Boys, they were receiving a stern lesson in football, as moments later, they found themselves not just trailing by one goal, but by two. City’s second goal came when Arijanet Muric was dispossessed near his own area, leading to Kevin De Bruyne finishing into an unguarded net.
Just moments before, De Bruyne delivered a precise pass to Haaland, who skillfully maneuvered around Muric to score his second goal of the day, leaving Kieran McKenna’s team in a state of shock.
In reality, Kieran McKenna’s squad was fortunate not to have conceded a fourth goal, as both Rico Lewis and De Bruyne struck the crossbar with powerful attempts.
The second half proved to be relatively uneventful compared to the first, which, for Ipswich, was somewhat advantageous as it alleviated their embarrassment.
By that point, a significant portion of the crowd was eagerly calling for the entry of Ilkay Gundoğan for his second debut with Manchester City. However, while they awaited his arrival, the home side had an opportunity to extend their lead, but Muric partially redeemed himself with a spectacular save that denied Haaland a chance at a hat-trick.
The City supporters ultimately got their wish when Pep Guardiola brought on their returning German star with 20 minutes remaining, prompting over 50,000 fans to rise to their feet in appreciation.
Overall, it was a rather humbling experience for Ipswich, who have faced a challenging start in the Premier League, having played against both Liverpool and City in their opening matches.
The hosts concluded their afternoon on a high note in the final moments when Haaland secured the match ball, marking a fitting end to City’s 18th victory in their last 19 Premier League encounters against newly promoted teams.
