Manchester City 5-2 Crystal Palace: De Bruyne Inspires Cityzens comeback in thrilling win over Palace

Kevin De Bruyne was at the heart of a sensational Manchester City comeback as they overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Crystal Palace 5-2 in the Premier League on Saturday. The Belgian midfielder scored once and played a key role in two more goals, helping City snap Palace's eight-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
The result lifted City to fourth in the Premier League standings, two points ahead of both Chelsea and Newcastle United, though both rivals have games in hand.
De Bruyne, who is widely expected to leave Manchester City this summer after a decade at the club, reiterated his commitment to helping the team secure Champions League football before his departure. “We have been in the Champions League for the nine, 10 years that I've been here so I hope we can do that for the team next year and I'll just try to play good football like I've always done,” the 33-year-old told the BBC.
Crystal Palace took advantage of early errors from City to go 2-0 up within the first 21 minutes. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring in the eighth minute, slotting home Ismaila Sarr’s cross past a scrambling Josko Gvardiol and an out-of-position Ederson. Chris Richards added a second from a precise Adam Wharton corner shortly after. Eze looked to have scored again before the half-hour mark, but his effort was ruled offside by semi-automatic technology making its Premier League debut.
City’s response was swift and decisive. De Bruyne got things started in the 32nd minute with a perfectly placed free kick, taking advantage of a gap in the wall. Just three minutes later, James McAtee’s cross eventually led to Omar Marmoush finishing from close range after a miscue by Ilkay Gundogan.
The momentum carried into the second half as City took the lead within two minutes of the restart. De Bruyne set up Mateo Kovacic with a well-placed pass following Nico O'Reilly’s assist from inside the box. Nine minutes later, Ederson launched a long ball that split the Palace defence, allowing McAtee to round the goalkeeper and score, marking the Brazilian keeper’s fourth assist of the season—an all-time Premier League record for a goalkeeper.
“Everyone was up for the game and we wanted to prove a point that we're committed, and want to finish in the Champions League spots,” McAtee told TNT Sports.
Nico O'Reilly capped off the victory with his first Premier League goal in the 79th minute, his shot deflecting past Dean Henderson after a poor clearance by Richards.
City, now unbeaten in four consecutive league matches, will visit Everton next Saturday. Crystal Palace face a midweek challenge away at Newcastle United.
