Erling Haaland, who had struggled with a goal drought in the Champions League, ended that streak with a brilliant performance. The City striker had not scored in his previous five Champions League matches. However, Haaland returned to his scoring ways with a second-half brace at the Wankdorf Stadium.

His first goal was a penalty that helped City regain the lead after Meschack Elia had canceled out Manuel Akanji's opening goal for the defending champions. Akanji, a Swiss defender, scored his first goal for City this season in front of his home crowd.

Haaland sealed the victory in the closing stages with his second goal of the match, bringing his total to 11 goals in all competitions this season.
