Manchester City ease past Copenhagen into Champions League's last eight

Manchester City, the reigning champions, secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a comfortable 6-2 aggregate win against FC Copenhagen. This victory further extends City's impressive unbeaten streak at home in European competitions to an astonishing 30 matches, with 28 wins and 2 draws.
Armed with a two-goal advantage from the initial encounter in Denmark, Pep Guardiola's team wasted no time in further solidifying their control over the match by scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes.
Firstly, Manuel Akanji managed to find some space inside the penalty area and skillfully volleyed the ball into the net from Julian Alvarez's corner. Just four minutes later, the Argentine himself doubled City's lead with a powerful long-range shot that slipped through the hands of Kamil Grabara.
Despite City's dominance, it was Jacob Neestrup's team who managed to pull one goal back against the flow of the game shortly before the 30-minute mark. Mohamed Elyounoussi showcased impressive speed as he broke into the City box and executed a superb one-two with Orri Oskarsson before confidently finishing into the bottom corner.
However, City remained undeterred and reestablished their four-goal aggregate lead just before halftime, with Erling Haaland unleashing a powerful shot into the net after receiving a precise pass from Rodri.
With that goal, Copenhagen's hopes of staging an unlikely comeback were all but extinguished, and the early stages of the second half unsurprisingly saw Guardiola's men dominate proceedings.
Nevertheless, the visitors refused to surrender without a fight. Substitute Magnus Mattsson saw his strike deflected wide, and Elyounoussi wastefully blasted the ball over the crossbar from the edge of the box.
The end of the match saw City taking advantage of the closing stages to give some of their important players a well-deserved rest. As a result, the intensity of the game gradually diminished, leading to a rather uneventful ending.
Nevertheless, this outcome allowed the hosts to extend their impressive unbeaten streak to 19 matches across all competitions. Their next challenge awaits them in the form of a crucial Premier League encounter against Liverpool on Sunday.
On the other hand, Copenhagen's record in England remains disappointing, as they have failed to secure a victory in all eight of their previous visits (with two draws and six losses).
