Manchester City Sign Brazilian Teenage Sensation Vitor Reis for £29.6 Million

Manchester City have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for a reported fee of £29.6 million ($36.2 million).
The Premier League champions confirmed the deal on Tuesday, with Reis committing to a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Reis’s Excitement at Joining the Premier League Champions
The right-footed centre-back, who is also a Brazilian youth international, expressed his enthusiasm for the move:
“I’m excited to join Manchester City, one of the biggest clubs in the world. Everyone has seen the amazing achievements in recent seasons, and I want to make my mark as we seek more trophies. Working with Pep Guardiola is something every young player wants to do, and I know he can help me develop into the best player I can be.”
City’s Vision for a Promising Talent
Director of football Txiki Begiristain lauded the youngster’s potential, emphasizing his technical and physical abilities:
“Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world, and we’re delighted to have been able to bring him here. He is excellent on the ball and outstanding in the air — he has all the attributes needed to be one of the best.”

City’s January Transfer Window Activity
Reis is Manchester City’s second acquisition of the January transfer window, following the arrival of Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov. Reports suggest the club is also pursuing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush before the transfer deadline.
Addressing Defensive Woes Amid Injury Challenges
Manchester City’s defensive depth has been tested this season due to a series of injuries, impacting their Premier League title defense. Despite these setbacks, Pep Guardiola’s side showcased their strength with a commanding 6-0 win over Ipswich last weekend, climbing to fifth in the table.
Reis’s arrival adds youthful energy and long-term promise to City’s backline as they aim to overcome their early-season challenges and continue their pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts.
