Manchester City Women sign Brazil star Kerolin Nicoli

Manchester City Women have signed Brazilian forward Kerolin Nicoli on a three-and-a-half-year contract, bolstering their attacking lineup with the 2023 National Women's Soccer League MVP.

The 25-year-old Olympic silver medalist arrives from North Carolina Courage, where she became the first South American to win the league's most valuable player award after leading her team to the Challenge Cup victory.

"I think there were a lot of reasons why I chose City and one of those was to play in the Champions League," Nicoli said. "I think the players (in the WSL) are really technical and the team is compact. I want to be better, to learn different things and to come here to be challenged, also play against the defenders who will play in the next World Cup in Brazil in 2027."

Boasting 45 national team caps and an impressive record of 13 goals in 24 games for North Carolina, Nicoli comes highly recommended. "Kerolin is creative, quick, and will add even more firepower to our forward line," said Women's Director of Football Therese Sjogran.

The transfer arrives as City sits fourth in the Women's Super League, nine points behind leaders Chelsea, with a League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United on the horizon.
