Manchester City's Phil Foden voted Premier League player of the season

On Saturday, the Premier League announced that Phil Foden of Manchester City has been named the player of the season.

This recognition comes after Foden's exceptional performance throughout the campaign, marking the best season of his career. With 17 goals and eight assists in 34 league games,

Foden has played a crucial role in City's pursuit of their fourth Premier League title in four years. As the season reaches its final day,

City currently holds a two-point lead over Arsenal. If Guardiola's side secures the title, Foden will become the youngest player ever to win six Premier League trophies.

Foden expressed his pride and gratitude for the nomination, acknowledging the other talented players who have also had remarkable seasons.

He emphasized his satisfaction with his own performance, particularly in terms of goals and assists.

Foden emerged as the winner from a strong shortlist that included notable names such as Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk, and Ollie Watkins.

This victory further solidifies City's dominance, as their players have now claimed the award for five consecutive years. Foden joins the likes of Ruben Dias, Haaland, and two-time winner Kevin De Bruyne as recipients of this prestigious accolade.

The last player from a different club to win the award was Liverpool's Van Dijk in the 2018-19 season. In addition to this achievement, Foden was also honored with the Football Writers' Association's player of the year award earlier this month.
