Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal: Rice late strike rescues point for Gunners against Red Devils

Arsenal rallied from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League, marking the second consecutive encounter between the two teams that concluded in a stalemate after 90 minutes. This result also allowed the Red Devils to end a four-match losing streak in league meetings with Arsenal.

Following their impressive midweek triumph over PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal displayed promise in the opening moments and nearly took the lead when Mikel Merino's shot narrowly missed the target in the 10th minute.

Although Alejandro Garnacho posed some challenges on the right flank, the visitors maintained control for the majority of the match but found it difficult to penetrate the Red Devils' defense.

Martin Ødegaard's long-range effort was saved by André Onana, and Thomas Partey also failed to convert a shot from outside the box. Leandro Trossard subsequently shot wide after an improvised touch, redirecting Ødegaard’s delicate pass into Onana’s hands.

Despite a lack of offensive threat for much of the first half, United took the lead just before halftime when Garnacho earned a free-kick, which Bruno Fernandes expertly curled into the top corner, marking the team's first shot on target.

Ayden Heaven made his Premier League debut shortly after halftime, having transferred to United from Arsenal in January, and the 18-year-old quickly adapted to the pace of the game.

The Gunners continued to create chances from set pieces, but both Ødegaard and Rice were unable to find the back of the net against Onana. Shortly thereafter, the hosts' wing-backs linked up effectively, with Diogo Dalot setting up Noussair Mazraoui, whose effort was brilliantly saved by David Raya.

Raya then denied an instinctive flick from Zirkzee, while Trossard's attempt at the opposite end rolled harmlessly wide. Ultimately, Rice provided the finishing touch that the visitors had been seeking, scoring with a first-time shot from Jurriën Timber’s pass that struck the post before going in.

Neither team was afforded a second opportunity as Onana deflected Gabriel Martinelli’s shot wide of the goal.

Subsequently, Rice and Gabriel Magalhães executed crucial defensive actions to thwart Rasmus Højlund, while Raya delivered an outstanding save to prevent Fernandes from scoring during stoppage time. As a result, Arsenal recorded their second consecutive draw in the Premier League, leaving them 15 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

This match also marked Manchester United's third draw in their last four matches across all competitions, which was sufficient to elevate them by one position in the standings.
