Manchester United 3-1 Southampton: Amad nets hat-trick as Red Devils complete comeback victory over Saints

Amad Diallo delivered a stunning late hat-trick to save Manchester United from embarrassment, securing a dramatic victory over Southampton. The young forward's brilliant performance turned the tide in the final moments of the match, sparing United’s blushes and ensuring they left the pitch with all three points.
Following Ivan Jurić's inaugural win against Swansea in the FA Cup, Southampton began the match with a positive attitude, creating the first significant opportunity when Kamaldeen Sulemana skillfully maneuvered past Leny Yoro, only to be thwarted by André Onana from a challenging angle.
At the opposite end, Alejandro Garnacho experienced frustration after failing to convert a chance from Rasmus Højlund’s assist, while Kobbie Mainoo’s attempt to set up the Argentine was crucially intercepted by Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
Despite this, Southampton's confidence grew, with Onana making an impressive save against Tyler Dibling after a remarkable run by the young winger. The United goalkeeper then quickly reacted to deny Mateus Fernandes from close range, although the Portuguese midfielder should have capitalized on the opportunity.
Sulemana attempted to score next but sent his shot wide. Southampton eventually took the lead in the 43rd minute when Fernandes’ corner was flicked on by Dibling, resulting in Manuel Ugarte inadvertently redirecting the ball past Onana, despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it.
Ruben Amorim opted to substitute Antony for Mainoo at halftime, yet Southampton maintained their dominance, prompting United's coach to introduce Joshua Zirkzee and Toby Collyer in place of Højlund and Ugarte.
The Saints continued to press, nearly doubling their advantage when Kamaldeen outmaneuvered Yoro once more, only to see his shot agonizingly miss the target. This miss appeared costly when Garnacho delivered a cross to Antony, who failed to make a clean connection with the goal at his mercy, allowing Aaron Ramsdale to collect the ball without difficulty.
Pressure mounted as Bruno Fernandes attempted to chip the former Arsenal goalkeeper, but the home captain's subsequent square pass was crucially intercepted by James Bree. However, United equalized in the 82nd minute when Amad took advantage of a fortunate bounce, granting him the time and space to strike confidently.
The closing moments were understandably tense for the visitors, given their difficulties this season. Just before stoppage time, Amad delivered a decisive blow, executing a precise one-two with Christian Eriksen before volleying the ball into the net with authority.
The Ivorian completed his hat-trick in the final moments, seizing on a careless touch from Harwood-Bellis to score effortlessly, igniting jubilation among the Stretford End supporters.
This result was a hard blow for Southampton, as their winless streak away from home in the Premier League extended to 18 matches. In contrast, United climbed to 12th place, celebrating their first home league victory since early December.
