Manchester United 4-0 Everton: Amorim continues unbeaten start as Red Devils thrash Toffees

Manchester United delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford, marking their fifth victory in seven unbeaten matches, two of which have occurred under the management of Ruben Amorim.

After securing his first win in European competition on Thursday, Amorim was now aiming for his first Premier League triumph as the manager of United.

The home team commenced the match with a strong start, controlling possession and posing threats along both wings through the newly implemented wing-back system at Old Trafford.

Everton took some time to find their rhythm, but after the first quarter of an hour, Sean Dyche’s squad began to create counter-attacking opportunities, led by Beto. The forward capitalized on a misplaced pass from Diogo Dalot, yet after advancing into the penalty area, his shot went wide of the target.

Just as the Toffees appeared to gain momentum, United struck first in the 34th minute.

A well-executed corner routine allowed Bruno Fernandes to find Marcus Rashford at the edge of the box, and the Englishman’s volley deflected off Jarrad Branthwaite, marking his second goal in as many Premier League matches.

With the momentum firmly in their favor, the Red Devils extended their lead before halftime.

Amad Diallo expertly regained possession in the Everton half, enabling Fernandes to drive into the box, where his square pass was converted by Joshua Zirkzee, who scored for the first time since the opening day of the Premier League.

Dyche would have hoped for an improved performance from his team in the second half, but their chances of a comeback were dashed just 21 seconds after the restart when the hosts scored their third goal.

Amad surged down the right wing and set up Rashford, who completed his brace by slotting the ball through Pickford’s legs.

The Everton players appeared visibly shaken and struggled to establish themselves in the match, ultimately allowing a fourth goal shortly after the hour mark.

Amad once again penetrated the Toffees' defense and found Zirkzee, who finished with precision.

Amorim seized the opportunity to make several substitutions in anticipation of his team's upcoming clash with their traditional rivals, Arsenal, thereby reducing the intensity of the match.

Everton was unable to recover after conceding so quickly after the second half began, as United comfortably secured their fourth consecutive victory at Old Trafford—marking their first Premier League win by a margin of four or more goals since August 2021.

With a sixth defeat in 13 matches, the Toffees find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone, with only two points separating them from Wolves in 18th place.
