Manchester United complete £65 million signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford on six-year deal

Manchester United have successfully secured the services of prolific forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, announcing the completion of a long-term contract that runs until 2030 with an optional one-year extension. The Red Devils confirmed the major transfer acquisition on Monday, marking another significant addition to their squad ahead of the new campaign.

The Premier League giants invested £65 million ($88 million) to secure Mbeumo's signature from Brentford, with an additional £6 million potentially payable through performance-related add-ons, according to club sources. The substantial investment reflects United's commitment to strengthening their attacking options with one of the league's most consistent goal threats.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international enjoyed a breakthrough 2024-25 Premier League season, netting an impressive 20 goals that played a crucial role in Brentford's commendable 10th-place finish. His goal tally positioned him as the fourth-highest scorer in the division, trailing only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (29), Newcastle's Alexander Isak (23), and Manchester City's Erling Haaland (22).

Expressing his delight at joining Old Trafford, Mbeumo revealed his emotional connection to the club. "As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams, the team whose shirt I wore growing up," he said.

The versatile attacker emphasized his determination to continue improving under his new surroundings. "My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday, I know that I have the spirit of character to reach another level here, learning from (manager) Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players."

Mbeumo's adaptability proved invaluable to Brentford throughout the previous campaign, excelling both on the right wing and as a central striker. His reliability was demonstrated by starting every Premier League fixture last season, showcasing the durability and consistency that attracted United's attention.

The Cameroon forward initially joined the West London outfit from French Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019, establishing himself as a key player over his five-year tenure. During his time at the Brentford Community Stadium, Mbeumo accumulated 242 appearances across all competitions, contributing 70 goals and 51 assists to help establish the club in the Premier League.

Manchester United's director of football Jason Wilcox praised the new signing's impressive track record in English football. "Bryan's goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional, his remarkable consistency has put him amongst the most productive players in England for the last three seasons," said Wilcox.

The club official expressed satisfaction at securing another priority target ahead of their pre-season preparations. "We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour. The experience in the U.S. will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new teammates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead."

Mbeumo's arrival comes at an ideal time as Manchester United prepare for their upcoming pre-season tour across the United States. The club has scheduled three high-profile friendlies during their American expedition, beginning with a clash against West Ham United in New Jersey on July 26. The tour continues with a match against Bournemouth in Chicago on July 30, before concluding with a fixture against Everton in Atlanta on August 3.

The signing represents Manchester United's continued investment in attacking talent as manager Ruben Amorim looks to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level. Mbeumo's proven Premier League experience and goal-scoring consistency make him an attractive addition to United's forward line, offering tactical flexibility and immediate impact potential for the upcoming season.
