Manchester United pick up much-needed win over Luton

Manchester United bounced back from their midweek UEFA Champions League defeat with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Luton Town in the Premier League, extending their remarkable record of home victories against the Hatters to 19, a streak that traces its roots back to 1899.

Eager to recover from a 4-3 loss to Copenhagen, Manchester United, led by Erik ten Hag, seized control early with an impressive 85% possession within the initial 15 minutes.

Despite creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities, including a tantalizing chance for Rasmus Hojlund, denied by an exceptional Thomas Kaminski save, the hosts struggled to convert dominance into goals.

Scott McTominay and Alejandro Garnacho came close, yet a decisive touch in the final third eluded United. Luton gradually found their footing, testing Andre Onana before halftime, but the score remained level.

As the first half concluded, Garnacho missed a golden opportunity, failing to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation, encapsulating United's frustrations. The second half mirrored the first, with United dictating play but lacking the clinical touch.

However, in the 59th minute, a Bruno Fernandes corner caused chaos in Luton's defense, leading to Marcus Rashford's delivery and a subsequent ricochet that Victor Lindelof capitalized on, breaking the deadlock.

With the pressure eased, United played with newfound freedom, almost doubling their lead, only for Mctominay's header to be brilliantly saved.

Ultimately, the solitary goal proved sufficient, providing Manchester United with a much-needed victory before the international break, a relief for manager Erik ten Hag.
