Manchester United put seven goals past Barnsley to progress in League Cup

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Christian Eriksen each netted two goals as Manchester United advanced to the last 16 of the League Cup with a commanding 7-0 victory over third-tier Barnsley on Tuesday.
United was joined in the fourth round by other Premier League teams, including Brentford, who triumphed over third-tier Leyton Orient with a score of 3-1, and Crystal Palace, who narrowly defeated Queen's Park Rangers 2-1.
In a surprising turn of events, Premier League side Fulham was eliminated by second-tier Preston North End in a dramatic match that ended 1-1, with Preston winning 16-15 in penalties, marking the longest shootout in the competition's history.
England international Rashford ended a six-month goal drought over the weekend by scoring against Southampton in the Premier League, and he required only 16 minutes to find the net against Barnsley.
His elegant finish set the stage for United to overpower Barnsley, who struggled to compete with Erik Ten Hag's team.
Antony converted a penalty in the 35th minute to double the lead, and Garnacho added a third just before halftime, putting the hosts firmly in control.
Garnacho scored his second shortly after the break from a pass by Rashford, who then made it 5-0 by returning the favor. Eriksen marked his return to scoring for United after more than a year in the 81st minute, finishing from a cross by Bruno Fernandes.
Eriksen capped off the match with a strike from the edge of the box, securing United's largest-ever victory in the League Cup.
In another match at Goodison Park, the Premier League's bottom two teams faced off, resulting in further disappointment for Everton, who were eliminated by Southampton after a 1-1 draw, losing 6-5 in the penalty shootout.
Abdoulaye Doucoure gave Everton the lead, but Southampton equalized through Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and the visitors ultimately triumphed in the shootout after eleven successful penalties, with Ashley Young's attempt saved by Alex McCarthy.
Brentford experienced an initial setback when Brandon Cooper scored for Orient, but Fabio Carvalho responded with an impressive equalizer. Mikkel Damsgaard then headed Brentford into the lead, and Christian Norgaard secured advancement for Thomas Frank's squad.
Eddie Nketiah netted his inaugural goal for Crystal Palace, while Eberechi Eze delivered the decisive strike against his former team QPR, propelling Palace into the round of 16.
Sheffield Wednesday achieved a 1-0 victory over Blackpool, whereas Championship team Stoke City required a penalty shootout to overcome fourth-tier Fleetwood Town after the match concluded in a 1-1 stalemate.
