Manchester United sign Danish defender Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United have officially signed 20-year-old Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu from Italian Serie A side Lecce, securing him on a contract until 2030. The Premier League giants confirmed the move on Sunday, reinforcing their squad with one of Europe's most promising young defenders.

According to British media reports, the transfer is valued at €30 million ($31.1 million), with an additional €5 million in performance-based add-ons.

Dorgu, who joined Lecce from Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2022, made 57 appearances for the Italian side, impressing with his attacking runs and defensive solidity. Speaking about his move to Old Trafford, he expressed enthusiasm about working under new United manager Ruben Amorim.

"I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting," Dorgu said in a statement. "There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions."

The Denmark international, who has earned four caps for his country, becomes United’s second signing under Amorim, following the Portuguese manager's appointment in November as a replacement for Erik ten Hag.

With United currently struggling in 12th place in the Premier League, having won just two of their last five league games, the arrival of Dorgu could provide much-needed defensive reinforcement as the club looks to climb up the table.
