Marc Skinner Hails Phallon Tullis-Joyce as a Future World’s Best Goalkeeper

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has lavished praise on in-form goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, claiming she has the potential to become the best shot-stopper in the world.
The 29-year-old American has been a defensive rock for the Red Devils this season, recording nine clean sheets in 14 Women's Super League (WSL) matches while conceding just six goals. Her impressive performances have made her a key player in United’s push for success.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some incredible goalkeepers, but Phallon has an agility and athleticism that sets her apart,” Skinner said in his latest press conference. “She’s dominant in goal, steps up in crucial moments, and instills confidence in our defense. More importantly, she’s a student of the game, always striving to improve.”
Why Tullis-Joyce Stands Out
Tullis-Joyce’s stellar stats this season underline her growing reputation. Her ability to command the box, make decisive saves, and organize the backline has played a pivotal role in United’s defensive solidity.
“Statistically, I think she will prove to be one of the best,” Skinner added. “In football, opinions vary, but when you combine those opinions with the numbers, she’s undoubtedly an incredible goalkeeper. If she continues at this level, I genuinely believe she can be the best in the world.”
Despite her outstanding club form, Tullis-Joyce was left out of the latest U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) squad for the SheBelieves Cup, with Emma Hayes opting for Jane Campbell (Houston Dash) and Mandy McGlynn (Utah Royals) instead. However, she still traveled as a training player, showing her commitment to breaking into the national setup.
Grace Clinton’s Rise: United’s Midfield Sensation
Another United talent making waves is 21-year-old midfielder Grace Clinton, who delivered standout performances in England’s UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign. She was given back-to-back starts, including a high-intensity clash against Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí in England’s victory over Spain.
With Georgia Stanway absent, England manager Sarina Wiegman deployed Clinton in a deeper midfield role, where she displayed maturity beyond her years.
“Grace is developing into an excellent No. 8,” Skinner noted. “That’s the long-term plan for her, and both Sarina and I agree. Her ability to cover spaces and operate box-to-box makes her a special talent. It’s about finding the best role for her in the team to maximize her impact.”
With United competing for a top-four WSL finish, the performances of Tullis-Joyce and Clinton could be pivotal in defining their season. The Red Devils have a strong foundation to build on, with a mix of experienced leaders and rising stars making their mark on the league.
