Martin smashes lap record to storm to pole at Austrian Grand Prix

Jorge Martin, the leader of the world championship from Prima Pramac Racing, established a new lap record to secure pole position ahead of two-time MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia at the Austrian Grand Prix on Saturday
The Spaniard, who holds a three-point advantage over Bagnaia in the championship standings, achieved a top time of one minute 27.748 seconds at the Red Bull Ring.
Despite dealing with a minor finger injury, Martin will have the opportunity to extend his lead in the sprint race on Saturday.
"It was challenging. Yesterday, I sustained a cut on my finger that I hoped would improve, but this morning it was quite painful. They just stitched me up, and at least I can ride," Martin remarked.
"While riding is manageable, it did cause some distraction. However, I was able to perform well in the morning, even though it was somewhat bothersome.
"But now I feel confident for the evening. This track is really enjoyable for me."
Bagnaia recorded the second-fastest time after showing dominance in practice on Friday, while six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, currently fourth in the championship, rounded out the front row.
Aleix Espargaro secured the fourth-fastest time, followed by Jack Miller, Maverick Vinales, and Enea Bastianini in fifth, sixth, and seventh places, respectively..
