Mauricio Pochettino says European spot will make Chelsea's season

Chelsea's potential to secure a European qualifying spot could be a turning point for their season and provide optimism for the future, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

To move closer to a top-six finish in the Premier League, Chelsea must secure a victory against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday. The team is currently tied with Newcastle United in sixth place with 57 points, but they are behind on goal difference.

Newcastle will face Manchester United, who are in seventh place with 54 points, in a crucial match for European qualification.

Despite facing challenges such as injuries and inconsistent performances from the young squad, Chelsea has shown promise in recent weeks, climbing up the league table.

Pochettino expressed confidence in the team's performance in the last stretch of the season and emphasized the importance of securing a spot in Europe for the upcoming campaign.

With key players returning from injury, including Reece James, and the potential inclusion of Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell in the squad, Chelsea is gearing up for their final matches.

Pochettino remains optimistic about the team's future and aims to focus on tactical evolution and positive growth in the next season.

Looking back at his inaugural season in charge, Pochettino refrained from dwelling on the negatives. "I prefer not to delve further into the topics of age and lack of experience within the squad," he expressed.

"Moving forward, I aim to shift the focus onto a different subject come next season. I anticipate discussions revolving around the tactical evolution of the game, fostering positivity and growth.

"At present, it feels as though we are stagnant, akin to the sentiment conveyed in the Coldplay song, 'stuck in reverse'."

The uncertainty surrounding the Argentine manager's future loomed large, exacerbated by dwindling support from certain fans following a string of poor league performances, coupled with defeats in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City and the League Cup final against Liverpool.

"I am not one to feign emotions, and I expect the same sincerity from others towards me. It is crucial for the fans to relish their time in the stadium and establish a strong connection with us, all while maintaining respect," he emphasized.

"Gradually, over time, we will achieve the results that the club rightfully deserves. Undoubtedly, we are on track to cultivate a strong rapport."
