Max Verstappen wins 2025 US Grand Prix to reignite F1 Title Race

Max Verstappen has reignited the Formula 1 title race in style. The four-time world champion delivered a masterclass performance at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, sweeping both the Sprint and main race to collect a maximum 33 points and firmly plant himself back in the championship fight.

The Red Bull RB21 was untouchable all weekend. Verstappen took pole for both events, led from the front, and never looked back, leaving McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri watching his tail lights disappear around the Circuit of the Americas.

With his victory, Verstappen has closed to within 26 points of Norris and 40 points of championship leader Piastri, transforming what once looked like a two-horse race into a genuine three-way battle for the 2025 Drivers’ Championship.

“For sure, the chance is there,” Verstappen said after Sunday’s win. “We just need to keep delivering weekends like this. It wasn’t easy to manage the tires, but we executed perfectly. I’m incredibly proud of everyone for what we achieved.”

From 104 Points Back to a Real Title Threat

After the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where Piastri took victory and Verstappen finished second, the Red Bull driver found himself a daunting 104 points behind in the standings. But since then, he’s chipped away relentlessly, cutting more than 60 points off Piastri’s lead in just four race weekends.

Verstappen’s resurgence has been built on consistency and precision. In Austin, he dominated the Sprint to take maximum points, then controlled the Grand Prix from start to finish. Despite constant pressure from Norris, Verstappen maintained a small but crucial gap throughout the race, executing both pit stops to perfection and managing tire wear like the seasoned champion he is.

“The pace between myself and Lando was really close,” Verstappen admitted. “That first stint made the difference. I could pull a small gap, and we held it to the end.”

McLaren feels the pressure

While Verstappen celebrated, McLaren faced tough questions about how to respond to Red Bull’s charge. Both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris remain in mathematical contention, but with Verstappen closing in fast, the team may soon face a decision about who to back as their title hope.

Piastri, however, played down any talk of prioritizing one driver over the other.

“We’re still so incredibly tight,” Piastri said. “We both want to fight for the championship because we’ve earned that right. It’s too close to start choosing between us.”

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella echoed a similar sentiment - calm, but clearly aware of the threat Verstappen now poses.

When Max has the material to win, he’s always a serious candidate for the championship,” Stella said. “That doesn’t change what we do. We just have to maximize performance, execute clean weekends, and focus on ourselves.

Still, even Stella acknowledged that momentum has shifted. After a few missed opportunities, most notably at Spa, McLaren knows it can’t afford any more errors. “The outcome of this season is in our hands,” Stella insisted. “It’s not in someone else’s hands. But we must keep executing perfectly.”

As the sun set over Texas, the sense was clear, Formula 1’s title fight is far from over. Verstappen’s flawless weekend in Austin has breathed new life into the championship, turning what once looked like McLaren’s to lose into a genuine three-way showdown.

The next few rounds will test whether McLaren can withstand the pressure, or whether Verstappen, once again, is timing his charge to perfection. For now, one thing is certain: the reigning king is back in the hunt.
