Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch set for Sept. 19 at Las Vegas Sphere, streaming on Netflix

More than a decade after their record-shattering first encounter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will step back into the ring for a professional rematch on Sept. 19 at Sphere.

The bout will stream globally on Netflix, marking another major step in the sport’s shift away from traditional pay-per-view distribution.

Weight class and round structure have yet to be confirmed. The event is being promoted by Manny Pacquiao Promotions and Mayweather Promotions in partnership with CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS, with production handled by EverWonder Studio, Hidden Empire and Limitless X Holdings.

Revisiting Boxing’s Biggest Night

When Mayweather and Pacquiao first met on May 2, 2015, the fight was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” While the bout itself, won by Mayweather via unanimous decision, drew mixed reactions from fans, its commercial performance remains unmatched. The contest generated 4.6 million U.S. pay-per-view buys and more than $410 million in revenue, along with a then-record $72.2 million live gate in Las Vegas.

Mayweather improved to 48-0 that night and later retired in 2017 after defeating Conor McGregor to finish his career at a perfect 50-0.

“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather said in a statement. “This time will be the same result.” Now approaching 49, Mayweather has remained active in exhibitions against high-profile names including Logan Paul and John Gotti III, while also announcing a multi-fight partnership with CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS.

Pacquiao’s Pursuit of Redemption

Pacquiao, 47, has long maintained that he entered their first fight compromised by a shoulder injury. After retiring in 2021 following a loss to Yordenis Ugas, the Filipino icon returned to action in 2025, fighting then-WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios to a majority draw. He is also scheduled for an exhibition bout against Ruslan Provodnikov on April 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

With a professional record of 62-8-3 (39 KOs), Pacquiao sees this rematch as an opportunity to rewrite history. “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said. “The fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch.”

He added that he hopes to hand Mayweather the first loss of his professional career.

Netflix Era Begins for Mega Boxing Events

The move to Netflix eliminates the possibility of breaking pay-per-view sales records, but it opens the fight to more than 325 million global subscribers. Netflix made its boxing debut in 2024 with the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson event, which reportedly drew 108 million live global viewers and became the most-streamed sporting event in platform history.

Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s vice president of sports, described the rematch as a full-circle moment, citing time spent earlier in his career around both fighters’ camps.

The Sept. 19 event will also mark the first boxing match held at the technologically advanced Sphere in Las Vegas. The UFC staged a major event there in 2024, with production costs exceeding $20 million, showcasing the venue’s immersive capabilities.

What’s at stake this time?

The dynamics are very different from 2015. Both fighters are older. Both have stepped in and out of retirement. And both carry legacies that are already secure. Yet the intrigue remains. For Mayweather, preserving the pristine 50-0 record is central to his brand. For Pacquiao, delivering that elusive blemish would redefine one of boxing’s most debated rivalries.

Unlike their first meeting, this bout unfolds in a new media landscape, streaming-first, globally accessible and staged in one of the most technologically ambitious arenas in sports.

Whether it surpasses the financial heights of their first fight is uncertain. But as a cultural moment, Mayweather vs Pacquiao II is already shaping up as one of the defining combat sports events of 2026.
