Memphis Grizzlies Secure First Win of the Season, Beat Portland 112-100

The Memphis Grizzlies claimed their first victory of the season, overcoming a large deficit to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 112-100 in an exciting Sunday night game. Desmond Bane starred for the Grizzlies with an impressive 30 points.
Despite a challenging start to the season, the Grizzlies displayed resilience and determination, with Desmond Bane stating, “We've been competing, growing, and learning a lot. A lot of people are getting new opportunities. I’m happy with where we’re headed and how we played tonight.”
Jerami Grant led the Blazers with 27 points, but it wasn't enough to secure the win, snapping their three-game winning streak.
The Blazers seemed to be in control with an 86-62 lead heading into the final quarter. However, their fortunes took a turn when Robert Williams III was injured, leaving the court and heading straight for the locker room. The Grizzlies capitalized on this, embarking on a 9-0 run to get within three points at 98-95. They eventually tied the game at 100, and from there, took the lead to secure their first win of the season.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins expressed the significance of the victory, acknowledging the team's challenging start to the season, stating, "You’ve got to celebrate; you know how hard it is to win in this league. We’re going to enjoy this one for sure.”
Shaedon Sharpe added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers, while Malcolm Brogdon notched his second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 assists.
Portland was without rookie guard Scoot Henderson for the second straight game due to a right ankle sprain, and they were already missing guard Anfernee Simons because of a torn ligament in his right thumb.
Bismack Biyombo, who recently joined the Grizzlies, made his debut for the team, although he encountered foul trouble. Santi Aldama also returned to the court for Memphis after missing the first six games due to a sprained right ankle.
Memphis, who had fallen behind by 11 points early, fought back with determination, and the game was ultimately decided in their favor.
Coach Chauncey Billups of the Blazers, a team in rebuilding mode following the departure of All-Star guard Damian Lillard, acknowledged the ongoing development of the squad, emphasizing the importance of teaching and demanding commitment from the players.
The victory for the Grizzlies will undoubtedly boost the team's morale as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
