Mexico 2-0 United States: Pochettino suffers first defeat as US coach

Mauricio Pochettino experienced his first loss as head coach of the US national team during only his second match in charge, as his team fell 2-0 to Mexico in a friendly encounter held in Guadalajara on Tuesday.
Raul Jimenez initiated the scoring midway through the first half with an impressive long-range free kick that sailed over the US defensive wall and found the top-right corner, much to the delight of the spectators at Estadio Akron.
Mexico asserted their dominance early in the second half when Cesar Huerta seized an opportunity in front of goal, swiftly firing a shot past the diving US goalkeeper Matt Turner to extend their lead.
This victory was crucial for Mexico, especially after they faced criticism from fans following a disappointing 2-2 draw against a weakened Valencia side in a friendly the previous weekend.

The US team, which had secured a win against Panama in Pochettino's debut match on Saturday, struggled offensively due to the absence of key players such as Christian Pulisic, Ricardo Pepi, and Weston McKennie, who opted to return to their respective clubs instead of traveling to Mexico.
Despite these absences, the US delivered a lackluster and passive performance, managing only one shot on target and witnessing the end of their seven-match unbeaten streak against their rivals.
Pochettino remarked that while the US began the match strongly, the dynamics shifted following Mexico's opening goal.
"It wasn't an impressive performance, but this type of match is ideal for our learning process," the Argentine stated to the media.
"Overall, I believe Mexico performed slightly better than us and rightfully earned the victory, but for us, it is a journey."
The match also served as an emotional farewell for Guadalajara native Andres Guardado, Mexico's most-capped player, who received a standing ovation as he exited the field early in the first half, marking his final appearance with a total of 182 caps.
