Mexico GP: Carlos Sainz achieves his goal of winning another race for Ferrari in the Mexican Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz (30) expressed his desire to secure another victory with Ferrari before transitioning to Williams next year, and on Sunday, he successfully fulfilled that ambition with a remarkable win at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

This victory marked his second win of the year, the fourth of his career, and it was Ferrari's third triumph in Mexico, the first since Alain Prost's victory in 1990.

Additionally, Sainz's win was significant as it was the first by a Spanish-speaking driver at this event, making the day particularly special for him and his family.

"Everyone was aware of my desire to achieve one more win for Ferrari and to depart the team on a high note - it was something I truly wanted," Sainz remarked, having learned that he will be succeeded by seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in January.

"I have had to maintain my motivation throughout this year despite facing challenging circumstances," he noted. "This victory was essential, especially here in Mexico, a Spanish-speaking nation, and in the presence of my family and closest friends.

"I knew my mother was in attendance, which inspired me to perform at my best, and this is simply fantastic."

Sainz's victory was Ferrari's second consecutive win, following Charles Leclerc's success at the United States Grand Prix, indicating the team's upward trajectory under new team principal Fred Vasseur with a competitive car.

For Sainz, this impressive win highlighted his significance within the Ferrari team as his tenure with them draws to a close.

The victory propelled Ferrari ahead of Red Bull in the constructors' championship, placing them in second position as they pursue leaders McLaren.

Carlos Sainz senior, a former world rally champion, remarked, "He has faced an exceptionally challenging year since discovering the necessity of finding a new team. We are all present to support him during this time."

Sainz expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from fans in Mexico, describing it as "incredible."

"I genuinely desired this victory; it was something I needed for myself, and I was determined to achieve it," he stated. "For some time, I have been expressing my wish for one more win before departing from Ferrari, and to accomplish it here in front of such an enthusiastic crowd is truly remarkable."

"With four races remaining, I aim to savor every moment, and if another victory opportunity arises, I will pursue it with vigor."
