Miami Heat win 111-105 over Charlotte Hornets

Jimmy Butler showcased his basketball prowess by scoring a season-high 32 points, leading the Miami Heat to a 111-105 victory over the short-handed Charlotte Hornets. Bam Adebayo also played a pivotal role in the win with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Duncan Robinson contributed 18 points to Miami's impressive performance, which marked their sixth consecutive win, during which they averaged a remarkable 113.8 points per game. This surge in scoring contrasted sharply with their 1-4 start to the season, where they struggled to average 102.4 points.
Butler attributed the team's turnaround succinctly, stating, "We’ve been scoring more points."
The victory extended Miami's unbeaten record in the NBA In-Season Tournament, putting them at 2-0 in group play, while the Hornets stand at 1-1.
The Heat completed a perfect 4-0 road trip, securing wins against San Antonio, Atlanta, and Memphis. Despite this success, they face a challenging schedule ahead with five more road games after returning home on Thursday night.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged the difficulties of their road trips but highlighted the team's ability to find different ways to win. He stated, "It's always harrowing on the road, but we have found different ways to win."
P.J. Washington led the Hornets in a losing effort, scoring 32 points and contributing to Charlotte's season-high 15 three-pointers. LaMelo Ball added 28 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds.
While Charlotte initially took a 32-24 lead in the first quarter, Miami capitalized on their opponent's thin depth in the second quarter to establish a 57-48 halftime lead. Butler's off-balance buzzer-beater from halfcourt added to the Heat's momentum.
Despite Charlotte's efforts to rally in the fourth quarter, Butler's clutch plays, including a fallaway jumper with 1:11 left, secured the Heat's victory.
Miami overcame shooting struggles from beyond the arc (25.8%) compared to Charlotte's impressive 46.9% three-point shooting.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. played a crucial role off the bench for Miami, contributing 17 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes. He emphasized the team's extra motivation in the tournament, with a $500,000 prize on the line.
The Hornets played without six key players due to injuries, including starters Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier, as well as top draft pick Brandon Miller and Cody Martin. Despite the challenges, coach Steve Clifford deemed some mistakes "unacceptable" and emphasized the need for better execution.
Looking ahead, the Miami Heat will host the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night, while the Charlotte Hornets will face the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night in another In-Season Tournament game.
