Miami Open: Djokovic defeats Musetti to reach Quarterfinals

Six-time Miami Open champion Novak Djokovic delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, crushing 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-2 to book his place in the quarterfinals. The 37-year-old Serbian legend, now just three wins away from his 100th ATP title, will next face American Sebastian Korda in a high-stakes showdown.
Djokovic’s First Miami Quarterfinal Since 2016
Making his first Miami Open appearance since 2019, Djokovic hadn’t advanced beyond the fourth round since winning the tournament at Crandon Park in 2016. He faced early resistance from Musetti, falling behind after an early break and even receiving a time violation warning.
However, that moment ignited his comeback, as the 40-time Masters 1000 champion reeled off nine straight games to take complete control. Djokovic sealed the win in just 1 hour and 23 minutes, sending a statement to the rest of the field.

Serena Williams & Del Potro Watch Djokovic’s Masterclass
Adding to the electric atmosphere, tennis legends Serena Williams and Juan Martin del Potro were in the stands cheering for Djokovic.
“I was starstruck! It was amazing to see DelPo, a long-time friend and rival. It was the first time he was in my box, so I really want to thank him,” Djokovic said.
He also had a special moment with Serena Williams during the match:
“When I hit that down-the-line passing shot, I pointed at her and asked if it was okay. She kind of said, ‘Yeah, it was fine.’ If Serena says it was fine, then it was amazing by everyone else’s standards,” he joked.
