Michael Jordan joins NBC Sports as special contributor for NBA coverage

Basketball icon Michael Jordan is officially stepping into a new role—this time, off the court—as a special contributor to NBC Sports’ NBA coverage starting from the 2025–26 season.

NBC made the announcement during its upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall on Monday morning, unveiling Jordan’s involvement as part of its high-profile return to NBA broadcasting after a 23-year hiatus.

“I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” said Jordan in a video message. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”

Jordan’s presence brings nostalgia and star power, as NBC was home to all six of his NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls between 1991 and 1998. This marks the first time the Hall of Famer has joined a major sports network in an official capacity.

NBC's NBA & WNBA Broadcast Plans

NBC’s new 11-year media rights agreement with the NBA and WNBA begins in October 2025 and includes:

  • Monday Night NBA games exclusive to Peacock
  • Tuesday Night Doubleheaders on NBC/Peacock
  • A brand-new Sunday Night Basketball franchise starting in January

Rick Cordella, President of NBC Sports, said:

“Michael’s legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself. We’re incredibly proud to have him join our coverage.”

Jordan’s Return to the Spotlight

Jordan’s last major media appearance came during ESPN's 2020 documentary “The Last Dance”, which detailed his career and the Chicago Bulls' dynasty. His involvement with NBC is expected to include insightful commentary, on-air features, and guest appearances that leverage his iconic status in the game.

Jordan’s role comes at a pivotal time as NBC gears up to reshape NBA media coverage and compete with other broadcast giants like ESPN and TNT. His involvement is expected to boost ratings, attract sponsors, and ignite nostalgia among longtime basketball fans.
