Mikel Merino the hero as Spain beat Germany in extra time to reach EURO semis

The highly anticipated rematch of the 2008 final saw Spain, champions 16 years ago, come close to scoring early on as Pedri's shot was saved just a minute into the game.
Despite attempts from Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal, and Fabián Ruiz from distance, and Kai Havertz missing a close-range header for Germany, the score remained level.
Spain ended the first half strongly, with Dani Olmo and Yamal denied by Manuel Neuer.
In the second half, Spain continued to press, with Álvaro Morata missing a golden opportunity created by Lamal. The deadlock was finally broken by Olmo in the 52nd minute.
Germany equalized in stoppage time through Florian Wirtz, sending the game into extra time.
With both teams battling for a spot in the semi-finals, penalties seemed likely until substitute Merino scored a header from Olmo's cross in the dying moments, securing Spain's dramatic victory.
Spain advanced to the semi-finals for the fourth time in five tournaments after a dramatic match. Füllkrug missed a crucial chance in injury time, and Dani Carvajal was sent off for a second yellow card.
Despite their efforts, Germany failed to score an equalizer, making them the first host nation to lose a European Championship quarter final.
