MLB roundup: Angels beat Astros, as Mets edge Phillies

Logan O'Hoppe's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning secured a 9-7 win for the Los Angeles Angels against the Houston Astros in Anaheim, Calif.

The Angels fought back from a 7-5 deficit with two runs in the eighth inning to level the game, leading to O'Hoppe's game-winning hit in the ninth. Kevin Pillar's single set the stage for O'Hoppe's heroics, as he capitalized on the first pitch he faced.

Despite Astros left fielder Trey Cabbage's near catch at the wall, the ball slipped out of his glove, allowing O'Hoppe to shine. O'Hoppe finished the game with four hits, including a double and two singles.

On the Astros' side, Jose Altuve stood out with four hits, matching his career high, and a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Jose Abreu, Chas McCormick, and Jake Meyers also contributed with two hits each, as the Astros outperformed the Angels with a 14-12 hit advantage.

Yankees 6, Dodgers 4
Trent Grisham delivered a crucial three-run home run in the sixth inning, while Aaron Judge showcased his power with his league-leading 24th homer, helping the New York Yankees avoid a three-game sweep against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers.

Unfortunately, Juan Soto was absent for the third consecutive game due to left forearm inflammation.

However, the crowd showed their support for him as Grisham turned the tide from a 3-2 deficit to a 5-3 lead against Los Angeles starter Tyler Glasnow (6-5).

Oswaldo Cabrera also contributed with a homer, and Judge added an RBI double to solidify the Yankees' victory.

Caleb Ferguson (1-3) earned the win in relief, while Clay Holmes secured his 19th save in 22 opportunities. Teoscar Hernandez continued his impressive series with his third homer, and Mookie Betts drove in two runs for the Dodgers.

Mets 6, Phillies 5
In a thrilling matchup, the New York Mets capitalized on an inconsistent performance from closer Jose Alvarado to secure a 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies and split the two-game series in London.

With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Pete Alonso courageously took a hit-by-pitch, bringing in the go-ahead run for the Mets. This opportunity arose after pinch hitter David Dahl's solo shot in the seventh gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead.

Alvarado had a chance to secure his 12th save of the season but faltered, allowing a walk and two singles to tie the game at 4-4. Another walk loaded the bases, setting the stage for Alonso's heroics. The Mets added an insurance run thanks to a passed ball charged to J.T. Realmuto.

The Phillies had a chance to stage a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, with the bases loaded and one out.

However, Drew Smith walked Alec Bohm, narrowing the gap to 6-5. Yet, catcher Luis Torrens displayed exceptional defensive skills by fielding Nick Castellanos' swinging bunt, stepping on the plate, and firing to first for an impressive 2-3, game-ending double play.

The Texas Rangers defeated the San Francisco Giants with a score of 7-2. Marcus Semien hit a home run and had two RBIs, while Wyatt Langford contributed with a triple, two hits, and two RBIs.

Semien, who was hit by a fastball in the helmet, scored twice. Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran also had notable performances, with Smith scoring two runs and Duran driving in two RBIs.

Adolis Garcia stole home for the Rangers, who finished with four stolen bases. Nathan Eovaldi, the winning pitcher, allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings.

Mike Yastrzemski homered for the Giants, but it wasn't enough to secure a win. Keaton Winn took the loss for San Francisco, giving up seven runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.
