MLB roundup: Diamondbacks win wild 10-inning affair with Brewers

Eugenio Suarez (33) delivered a bases-loaded single that struck the right field wall, emerging as the final hero in the Arizona Diamondbacks' thrilling 11-10 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in 10 innings on Sunday. This match concluded a three-game series in Phoenix, characterized by its intense back-and-forth action.
The Brewers took a 10-8 lead in the top of the 10th inning, thanks to a two-run triple from Jackson Chourio. However, the Diamondbacks responded with three runs against Jared Koenig in the bottom half of the inning.
Adrian Del Castillo initiated the rally with an RBI single, and Koenig subsequently loaded the bases without recording an out, ultimately hitting Christian Walker with a pitch to equalize the score at 10. Suarez then delivered the game-winning hit.
Chourio also contributed significantly for Milwaukee, hitting a home run and finishing the game with three hits and a career-high five RBIs. Eric Haase added a two-run homer for the Brewers, who managed to score eight consecutive runs after initially trailing 5-0.
For the Diamondbacks, Suarez recorded three RBIs, while Pavin Smith contributed with a three-run double.
In another matchup, the Tigers triumphed over the Orioles with a score of 4-2. Riley Greene showcased his power by hitting two home runs and driving in three runs for the home team, Detroit.
Tigers' starting pitcher Keider Montero (6-6) was effective, allowing five hits over five scoreless innings, following a previous shutout performance against Colorado. Jason Foley secured his 23rd save. Colt Keith also contributed with an RBI single, helping the Tigers secure six victories in their last eight games.
For the Orioles, Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer, while starter Cade Povich (2-9) allowed two runs and two hits over five innings, walking two and striking out eight.
Padres 4, Giants 3 (10 innings)
David Peralta contributed a crucial single that brought in a run and later scored the decisive run during a two-run 10th inning, leading San Diego to a three-game sweep over the host San Francisco team.
The Padres (85-65) continue to hold the top position in the National League wild-card standings with only two weeks left in the regular season. After the Giants (72-78) equalized in the ninth inning with a leadoff home run from Heliot Ramos, Peralta initiated the 10th inning with a single to left field off former San Francisco closer Camilo Doval (5-3), driving in automatic runner Jake Cronenworth, and subsequently scored on Donovan Solano's groundout that resulted in an RBI.
Adrian Morejon successfully retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the 10th, allowing a sacrifice fly to Michael Conforto in the process, thus securing his second save. Although Robert Suarez (9-3) was credited with the victory despite conceding Ramos' 21st home run, he ultimately blew his save opportunity.
Yankees 5, Red Sox 2
Aaron Judge hit his major-league-leading 53rd home run of the season as the New York Yankees triumphed over the Boston Red Sox in the final game of a four-game series.
Judge's two-run homer was part of a three-run third inning for New York (87-63), which won three out of four games in the series. Gleyber Torres began the inning with a solo home run, followed by a single from Juan Soto, before Judge launched a 445-foot shot over the center field wall, extending the Yankees' lead to 4-0.
Kutter Crawford (8-15) started for Boston, allowing four runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings, while issuing two walks and striking out seven. Connor Wong had a notable performance, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, as Boston suffered its fourth loss in six games.
