MLB Roundup: Dodgers Dominate as Guardians Heat Up Against Yankees in Playoff Thriller

David Fry of the Cleveland Guardians delivered a decisive home run in the 10th inning on Thursday, securing a thrilling 7-5 victory against the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball playoffs.Facing imminent defeat with one out remaining, the Guardians executed a remarkable comeback, with Fry's two-run homer narrowing the series to 2-1 in favor of the Yankees in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, which resumes on Friday in Cleveland.

"When everyone believes we cannot succeed, we maintain our belief that we can," Fry remarked. "What an incredible win. It was exhilarating."

In the National League Championship Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the New York Mets, achieving a resounding 10-2 victory. Shohei Ohtani contributed with a home run and four runs scored, while Mookie Betts recorded four RBIs on four hits, including a home run.

"It feels fantastic to know I can perform in critical moments," Betts stated. "During high-pressure situations, it is always reassuring to deliver for the team."

The Dodgers have the opportunity to advance with a victory in game five on Friday in New York.

"We are just one win away," said Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman. "I am hopeful for my first chance to participate in a World Series very soon."

In Cleveland, Yankees power hitters Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton launched consecutive home runs in the eighth inning, propelling New York into the lead. The Yankees subsequently secured an additional run in the ninth, establishing a 5-3 advantage.

However, in the bottom of the ninth, with Cleveland facing the prospect of falling behind 3-0 in the series, pinch-hitter Jhonkensy Noel delivered a dramatic two-run homer into the left-field stands. This remarkable play by the Dominican rookie brought the Guardians back to a 5-5 tie, necessitating extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, New York left two runners stranded, paving the way for Cleveland's walk-off victory. Bo Naylor hit a single and advanced to second on Brayan Rocchio's sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Fry, who hit the decisive homer off Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes over the left-field wall.

"I had a really good feeling," Fry remarked. "It was amazing. I still can't quite comprehend what happened, but we ended up winning."

"It's incredible. It feels surreal. We have much more to accomplish, but tonight was enjoyable."

The Yankees will seek to rebound from this narrow defeat in game four.

"They fought hard to come back," Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated. "It’s disappointing to lose in that manner, but we will be prepared for tomorrow."

The Yankees have not appeared in the World Series since claiming their record 27th championship in 2009, while Cleveland last reached the World Series in 2016 and has not won the title since 1948.

In New York, Ohtani and Mets slugger Mark Vientos exchanged solo home runs in the first inning.

Ohtani crossed home plate again in the third inning after walking, advancing on a single by Betts, and scoring on Edman's double, with Betts also scoring on a single by Enrique Hernandez, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

The Mets responded in the third with a run-scoring ground out by Brandon Nimmo, but the Dodgers extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth when Chris Taylor hit a single, Ohtani walked, and both scored on a double by Betts.

Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto recorded eight strikeouts while allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 4 1/3 innings. Three relievers subsequently maintained a scoreless performance against the Mets.
