MLB roundup: Giants slide past Phillies 1-0 in 10 innings

Tyler Fitzgerald had an electrifying moment in the bottom of the 10th inning, propelling the San Francisco Giants to a thrilling 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.

Starting with a runner on second base in extra innings, the Phillies chose to intentionally walk Heliot Ramos, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Wilmer Flores hit a fly ball to center field, advancing Fitzgerald to third base. Then, Luis Matos lifted a pitch to left field, deep enough for Fitzgerald to dash home ahead of a strong throw, securing the victory for the Giants.

The game was a tense battle with scoring opportunities at a premium. Phillies' starter Zack Wheeler and Giants' bullpen kept the game deadlocked at 0-0 through nine innings. Wheeler delivered a stellar performance, striking out nine over six innings while allowing only two singles and two walks.

In another game, the San Diego Padres cruised to a 4-0 win over the Miami Marlins behind strong pitching from Matt Waldron and Jeremiah Estrada. Waldron showcased his knuckleball prowess, striking out eight batters over seven innings without issuing a walk. Estrada set an MLB record by striking out 13 consecutive batters.

Elsewhere, Rafael Devers led the Boston Red Sox to an 8-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles with a standout four-hit performance, including a crucial triple. The Cubs also ended their five-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in 10 innings, fueled by Michael Tauchman's clutch hit.

In Anaheim, the Los Angeles Angels staged a late rally to defeat the New York Yankees 4-3, with Taylor Ward delivering a game-winning two-run double in the eighth inning. Kevin Pillar and Luis Rengifo were instrumental in the Angels' offensive efforts, while Juan Soto and Anthony Volpe provided highlights for the Yankees despite the loss.
