MLB roundup: Julio Rodriguez homers as Mariners drop Rangers to move first

On Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas, the Seattle Mariners secured a 4-0 victory against the Texas Rangers, propelling them to the top spot in the American League West. Julio Rodriguez, aged 23, showcased his skills by hitting his inaugural home run of the season, while Logan Gilbert, aged 26, delivered an impressive performance on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 scoreless innings.
Cal Raleigh smashed his sixth home run for Seattle, propelling them to their sixth victory in the last seven games and putting them slightly ahead of the reigning World Series champions, the Rangers. The Mariners also achieved their first win at Globe Life Field since 2022, breaking their winless streak of six games there last season.
In an impressive pitching performance, Gilbert (2-0) only allowed two hits throughout the game. Josh Smith managed a two-out double to right field in the fourth inning, and Nathaniel Lowe hit a leadoff double in the seventh. Despite walking four batters, Gilbert struck out six, showcasing his skills on the mound.
On the other side, Rangers' right-hander Dane Dunning (2-2) suffered the loss. He surrendered four runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings, accompanied by three walks and seven strikeouts.
Moving on to another game, the Angels defeated the Orioles 7-4, ending their five-game losing streak. Mike Trout set the tone with a leadoff home run, providing a spark for Los Angeles.
The bottom four hitters in the Angels' lineup, Logan O'Hoppe, Jo Adell, Luis Rengifo, and Zach Neto, had an outstanding performance, going 8-for-14 collectively with five runs and five RBIs. Lastly, the Twins emerged victorious with a 6-5 win over the White Sox. Byron Buxton played a crucial role, tying the game with a leadoff home run in the ninth inning. Alex Kirilloff then sealed the deal with a game-ending RBI single, securing the win for Minnesota.

The Braves defeated the Marlins with a score of 5-0. Max Fried pitched a shutout, securing his fifth consecutive win against Miami. Atlanta dominated the visiting Marlins, marking their eighth victory in nine games.
Fried (2-0) threw only 92 pitches, giving up three hits and no walks while striking out six batters. This win against Miami was his second this season. Adam Duvall contributed with a two-run homer, and Travis D'Arnaud went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Marlins' starter Trevor Rogers (0-3) struggled once again against the Braves. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk, with four strikeouts. Rogers now holds a 0-7 record in his career against Atlanta.
