MLB roundup: Mets send White Sox to historic low as Phillies beat rivals Atlanta

Sean Manaea delivered an impressive performance, pitching seven scoreless innings in his most recent start, while Francisco Lindor hit a home run to lead off the fourth inning on Sunday afternoon.

This effort helped the visiting New York Mets secure a 2-0 victory over the struggling Chicago White Sox, completing a series sweep.

The loss marked the White Sox's tenth consecutive defeat, setting a franchise record with their 107th loss of the season. With a record of 31-107, Chicago is on track to surpass the modern-era records for most losses in a season (120, held by the 1962 Mets) and the lowest winning percentage (.235, held by the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics).

Starling Marte contributed an RBI double in the ninth inning for the Mets, who concluded a 10-game road trip with a 7-3 record against the White Sox, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks. As of Sunday, New York was two games behind the Atlanta Braves in the competition for the final National League wild-card position.

Manaea (11-5) permitted only two hits, issued two walks, and struck out five batters over seven innings, achieving this feat for the seventh time in his last 12 starts since July 2. During this stretch, he has posted a 6-2 record with a 2.78 ERA, successfully reducing his overall ERA from 3.89 to 3.35.

In another matchup, the Philadelphia Phillies triumphed over the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in 11 innings. Nick Castellanos was instrumental, driving in all three runs, including the decisive run with two outs in the 11th inning, thereby extending the Phillies' lead in the National League East to seven games.

Philadelphia (81-56) won three out of four games in their final regular-season series against Atlanta. The Braves' lead over the New York Mets for the last NL wild-card spot has now diminished to one game.

Carlos Estevez (3-4) effectively retired the Braves in order during the 10th and 11th innings, recording two strikeouts. Aaron Bummer (4-3) took the loss after allowing one unearned run in the 11th inning.

Reds 4 Brewers 3 (11 innings)
Santiago Espinal delivered the decisive run, while Jonathan India recorded three hits and successfully threw out the potential go-ahead runner at home plate during the 10th inning, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a narrow victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Espinal, who came in as a pinch hitter, brought in automatic runner Rece Hinds from third base with a one-out grounder that pitcher Bryse Wilson was unable to field, marking only the second win for the Reds in their last seven games during a 10-game homestand, as they concluded a four-game series against the Brewers.

Willy Adames of the Brewers, who had an impressive weekend series with a home run in each game, popped out against Diaz while the go-ahead runner was positioned at third base.

Cardinals 14 Yankees 7
Lars Nootbaar produced a pivotal, bases-clearing double in the seventh inning, enabling the visiting St. Louis Cardinals to overcome a five-run deficit and secure a victory against the New York Yankees.

Jordan Walker achieved a career-high with five hits, including four singles and a two-run homer in the fifth inning that extended the Cardinals' lead to 7-2. Walker's base hit to right field set the stage for Nootbaar's crucial double against Kahnle's fastball.

For the Yankees, Anthony Rizzo contributed with an RBI double, while Alex Verdugo and Gleyber Torres each added run-scoring singles.
