MLB roundup: Oakland A's stifle Rangers 1-0 to secure series win

Left-handed pitcher JP Sears pitched a stellar game, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Seth Brown contributed with a homerun and a double, helping the Oakland Athletics secure a 1-0 victory against the Texas Rangers in the deciding game of their three-game series in Arlington, Texas.

Sears (1-1) made his 46th start in the major league, delivering an impressive performance. He walked three batters, struck out five, and only allowed one hit throughout the game, securing his 12th career win. Sears showcased his accuracy by throwing 88 pitches, with 56 of them being strikes.

In the second inning, Oakland took a 1-0 lead when Brown hit his first home run of the season, a remarkable 378-foot drive down the right field line. This was the only flaw in Texas starter Jon Gray's (0-1) performance, as he allowed three hits and a walk while striking out nine batters in five innings.

Sears maintained control on the mound, preventing the opposition from advancing into scoring position for six innings. The only time a runner reached scoring position was in the first inning when Marcus Semien walked, stole second base, and advanced to third on a flyout to the left field warning track by Wyatt Langford. However, Sears quickly shut down the threat by striking out Adolis Garcia.

In another game, the Kansas City Royals dominated the Houston Astros with a score of 13-3, completing a three-game sweep. Bobby Witt Jr. played a crucial role in the victory, hitting two home runs.

The Royals, who have now won seven consecutive games, had an explosive first inning where they sent 15 batters to the plate and scored nine runs. Witt's opposite-field, two-run homer was the highlight of the inning.

Kansas City set a club record by recording 11 hits in the first inning alone, all against Houston starter Hunter Brown (0-2), who managed to record only two outs.

Jose Altuve of the Astros continued his impressive performance, collecting three hits and extending his streak of reaching safely to 14 games, which is a career-best for him at the start of a season.

In a matchup between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves, the Mets emerged victorious with a dominant 16-4 win. Tyrone Taylor's grand slam in the ninth inning sealed the highest-scoring game of the season for the Mets.

Jeff McNeil also contributed significantly, driving in three runs. New York's offense was firing on all cylinders, with five other players recording two hits each.

Mets starter Jose Quintana (1-1) pitched five and one-third innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two batters and struck out four. Chadwick Tromp provided a two-run double for the Braves, but were outhit 16-10.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 9-4 in 10 innings, thanks to a stellar performance by Gunnar Henderson and Colton Cowser. Henderson and Cowser each hit a home run in the 10th inning, contributing to a six-run rally that secured the win for Baltimore.

Cowser had an outstanding game, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs, and two runs scored. He finished the three-game series sweep with an impressive 10 RBIs. The Orioles' offense was further boosted by homers from Henderson and Anthony Santander, who each had two RBIs.

On the Red Sox side, Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu stood out with two hits and an RBI each. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Baltimore's strong performance.

In another game, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1, with Ranger Suarez leading the way with six dominant innings on the mound. Philadelphia's offense was powered by three home runs, including solo shots from Alec Bohm and two-run homers from Brandon Marsh and Bryson Stott.

Suarez was in top form, limiting Pittsburgh to just two singles while striking out eight batters and walking two. Pirates' starter Jared Jones put up a solid effort, giving up three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings and striking out eight without issuing a walk. Jared Triolo's RBI single in the ninth inning prevented Pittsburgh from being shut out for the first time this season.
