MLB roundup: Padres ruin Shohei Ohtani's milestone night, Mets snap Royals streak

Jackson Merrill drove in the decisive run in the 11th inning to help the San Diego Padres secure an 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. This thrilling game showcased a historic achievement by the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani.

The two teams combined for a total of eight home runs, with six of them occurring in the first three innings of the game. One of these home runs was hit by Ohtani, marking his 175th career home run and tying Hideki Matsui's record for the most home runs by a Japanese-born player in MLB history.

In the 11th inning, with two outs, Merrill delivered a single to left field off Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia, allowing Jose Azocar, who was placed on second base as the automatic runner, to score. Padres closer Robert Suarez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the victory.

Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, tying the game at 7-7. Manny Machado, Ha-Seong Kim, and Jake Cronenworth also contributed with home runs for the Padres.

The Dodgers, on the other hand, received home runs from Max Muncy, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernandez against Padres pitcher Michael King, giving them a 7-3 lead after three innings.

In another game, the New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals with a score of 6-1. Luis Severino and four relievers combined to limit the Royals to only three hits. This victory ended Kansas City's seven-game winning streak.

The Mets scored five of their runs with two outs, showcasing their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Severino, who joined the Mets as a free agent in December, earned his first win with the team after allowing only one run on one hit in five innings.

Brandon Nimmo contributed with an RBI double in the third inning, while Jeff McNeil and DJ Stewart hit consecutive RBI singles in the fourth to give the Mets the lead. Brett Baty added a two-run double in the fifth, and Pete Alonso hit a solo home run in the eighth to further extend the Mets' lead.

In the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee emerged victorious with a dominant 11-1 win. Willy Adames had an impressive performance with three hits, including a home run.

Freddy Peralta, the Brewers' pitcher, struck out 11 batters in six strong innings. Gary Sanchez and William Contreras also contributed with home runs for the Brewers.

Unfortunately, Christian Yelich had to leave the game in the second inning due to lower back discomfort. Despite this setback, Milwaukee secured their third consecutive win.
