MLB roundup: Pavin Smith's walk-off home run lifts D-backs to victory

In the opening game of a three-game series, Pavin Smith delivered a clutch pinch-hit, walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, propelling the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
The winning shot came after Jake McCarthy's double to left field and Smith's powerful swing that just cleared the center field wall. This 424-foot blast secured Arizona's third consecutive win.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also contributed to the Diamondbacks' success with his 100th career home run, while Blaze Alexander provided two hits and an RBI.
On the Giants' side, Heliot Ramos homered, but it wasn't enough to prevent their fifth consecutive loss. In a tense moment, the Giants briefly believed they had taken the lead in the ninth inning when Jorge Soler hit a bouncer to third with runners on the corners.
However, a review showed that Arizona's Christian Walker made the tag before Soler's foot touched the base, nullifying the potential go-ahead run.

The Houston Astros secured a 7-4 win against the St. Louis Cardinals thanks to Yainer Diaz's two-run home run in the eighth inning. Alex Bregman also contributed with a game-tying homer earlier in the eighth, while the Astros bullpen held the Cardinals scoreless for the final four innings. Justin Verlander gave up four runs over five innings, but the Astros offense and relief pitching secured the victory.
