MLB roundup: Pirates' Paul Skenes beats Dodgers, Reds stun Rockies

Shohei Ohtani homered off Paul Skenes, but the highly praised right-handed rookie and the Pittsburgh Pirates emerged victorious with a 10-6 win over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.

Nick Gonzales equaled his career best with four RBIs for Pittsburgh, which included a two-run double that sparked a seven-run second inning.

Yasmani Grandal, Edward Olivares, and Ke'Bryan Hayes each contributed with RBI singles for the Pirates, who have the opportunity to complete a series sweep with a victory on Thursday.

Skenes (3-0) gave up a two-run homer to Ohtani and a solo shot to Andy Pages but secured the win by holding Los Angeles to just three runs on six hits. He also struck out eight batters and walked one over five innings.

Jason Heyward led the Dodgers with three hits and two runs, while Ohtani, Pages, and Will Smith each recorded two hits.

Cincinnati Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies 12-7 at Denver with Spencer Steer and Jonathan India hitting crucial home runs at the bottom of the ninth inning. Jeimer Candelario and TJ Friedl also contributed with home runs.

Elias Diaz stood out for the Rockies with a three-hit performance, including a home run. The game featured a dramatic turnaround as the Reds rallied from a 4-0 deficit to claim victory.

New York Yankees emerged victorious over the Minnesota Twins by a score of 9-5 as Carlos Rodon delivered an impressive pitching performance by retiring the first 16 batters he faced.

Rodon's sixth consecutive win was highlighted by striking out nine batters and allowing only three hits and two runs over six innings. Aaron Judge played a pivotal role for the Yankees, driving in five runs and extending his streak of reaching base to 31 games.

In Arlington, Texas, the Texas Rangers secured a 9-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers as Jonah Heim and Josh Smith contributed with home runs. Texas pitcher Jose Urena nearly threw a perfect game until he allowed a leadoff home run in the sixth inning.

Corey Seager exited the game due to injury after extending his on-base streak with a run-scoring single. Detroit's Kenta Maeda left the game early due to discomfort after throwing only two pitches.
