MLB roundup: Rangers sink Yankees with walk-off slam in ninth inning

Wyatt Langford delivered a dramatic walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning, propelling the Texas Rangers to a 7-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.

With a full count and the bases loaded and one out, Langford connected with a slider from Clay Holmes (2-5), launching the ball 407 feet into the left field stands.

Rookie reliever Walter Pennington (1-0) secured the final out in the top of the ninth, marking his first win in Major League Baseball.

The Rangers were down 4-1 before making a comeback in the eighth inning. Josh Jung, who recorded two hits and two RBIs, singled to bring in Josh Smith. Shortly thereafter, Nathaniel Lowe's sacrifice fly allowed Marcus Semien to score, narrowing the gap to one run.

For the Yankees, Anthony Volpe contributed with two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon struck out 11 batters and limited the Rangers to just one hit over six innings, which was a solo home run by Jung.

In another game, the Phillies triumphed over the Blue Jays with a score of 10-9. Kyle Schwarber hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning, marking his third home run of the game and leading Philadelphia to victory in Toronto.

Schwarber's decisive homer against Chad Green (4-5) was his 31st of the season, and he achieved a career-high with five hits and six RBIs. Orion Kerkering (4-2) was credited with the win due to Schwarber's late-game performance.

The Blue Jays saw Daulton Varsho, Addison Barger, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. each hit two-run homers.

In a separate matchup, the Orioles defeated the White Sox 9-0. Rookie Cade Povich pitched 7 1/3 innings without allowing a run and struck out 10 batters, contributing to the White Sox's 12th consecutive loss.

Anthony Santander and Colton Cowser each drove in two runs for Baltimore, while Gunnar Henderson scored three times from the leadoff position. The Orioles, having won four of their last five games, established a commanding 7-0 lead after just two innings.

White Sox starter Nick Nastrini (0-7) struggled, surrendering seven runs (four earned) in 1 2/3 innings.

Nationals 6, Marlins 2
Joey Gallo hit a three-run home run, and Patrick Corbin secured his third consecutive victory as the visiting Washington team triumphed over Miami.

Corbin (5-12) permitted seven hits, issued three walks, and allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings, while recording eight strikeouts. Keibert Ruiz had an impressive performance, going 3-for-4 and falling just a triple short of achieving the cycle, as the Nationals improved their record to 8-0 against Miami this season.

Max Meyer (3-5) was charged with the loss, giving up nine hits and five runs in 5 2/3 innings. Marlins right fielder Jesus Sanchez exited the game in the second inning due to a back spasm sustained while attempting to steal second base.

Rays 2, Twins 1
In his major league debut, Logan Driscoll delivered a single that brought in the winning run, marking his first hit in the big leagues and breaking a tie in the fourth inning as Tampa Bay defeated Minnesota in St. Petersburg.

Following his most impressive outing since returning from Tommy John surgery, Jeffrey Springs (2-2) allowed only one run on four hits over six innings, striking out four and walking two for the Rays.

Carlos Santana contributed a home run for Minnesota.
