MLB roundup: Rays recover for 12th-inning victory, Tigers edge Yankees

Dylan Carlson's RBI single in the 12th inning was pivotal in the Tampa Bay Rays' remarkable comeback, allowing them to recover from a six-run deficit and secure an 8-7 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Carlson's hit to left field brought home Alex Jackson and resulted in Justin Martinez (5-4) suffering his second defeat in the three-game series. Edwin Uceta (1-0) of the Rays achieved his first career win by delivering a scoreless 12th inning.
Brandon Lowe contributed significantly with two hits, including a two-run home run. Christopher Morel, who replaced Yandy Diaz (left forearm contusion) in the first inning, recorded two hits, a double, two runs, and a walk. Jose Caballero added a two-run double, a run, and three stolen bases, leading the American League with a total of 35.
For the Diamondbacks, Corbin Carroll had two hits, one of which was a two-run homer, while Adrian Del Castillo hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning, which allowed the game to extend into extra innings. Additionally, Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte re-injured his left ankle while pinch-hitting in the ninth.
In another matchup, the Tigers triumphed over the Yankees 3-2 in 10 innings. Parker Meadows delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th during the annual MLB Little League Classic held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Jace Jung tied the game with a two-out hit in the ninth, marking his first major league RBI. Meadows recorded three hits, while Colt Keith also contributed three hits along with a run for the Tigers.
In the top of the 10th, DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees hit a single on Beau Brieske's first pitch, allowing automatic runner Anthony Volpe to score. Brieske (2-3) earned the win, while Mark Leiter Jr. (3-5) was charged with the loss.
Brewers 2, Guardians 0
Colin Rea delivered an impressive performance, yielding only two hits across seven scoreless innings, as Milwaukee achieved a three-game sweep against the visiting Cleveland team.
Rea (11-4) recorded five strikeouts, did not issue any walks, and hit two batters. Bryan Hudson entered the game to secure three outs in the eighth inning after Rea hit Jhonkensy Noel for the second time to start the inning. Brice Turang contributed with two hits and scored a run for Milwaukee.
With closer Devin Williams unavailable, left-hander Jared Koenig, who had previously faltered in his two save opportunities this season, successfully pitched a flawless ninth inning to earn his first major league save. Cleveland's starting pitcher, Ben Lively (10-8), allowed two runs and five hits over six innings, striking out five and walking two.
Orioles 4, Red Sox 2
Gunnar Henderson hit his fourth home run in five games, while Albert Suarez pitched six scoreless innings, leading Baltimore to victory over Boston and concluding their homestand on a high note.
Adley Rutschman also contributed with a home run, helping the Orioles split the four-game series between the American League East playoff rivals. Remarkably, the Orioles secured the win despite recording only three hits, in contrast to Boston's 11, along with one walk and two hit batters.
Suarez (6-4), having received an extra day of rest, capitalized on the opportunity, allowing seven singles and striking out six without issuing a walk. Seranthony Dominguez pitched 1 1/3 innings, striking out three batters for his fourth save, despite conceding a solo home run to Rob Refsnyder, his eighth of the season, with one out in the ninth inning.
