MLB roundup: Rockies break Guardians' nine-game win streak, Orioles rip Red Sox

Charlie Blackmon, 37, had a stellar performance with a home run, two doubles, and four RBIs, leading the Colorado Rockies to an 8-6 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Denver on Monday.

This win snapped Cleveland’s nine-game winning streak, which was the team’s longest since their American League-record 22-game streak in 2017.

Originally slated starter Austin Gomber was scratched due to arm soreness, prompting Anthony Molina to step in. Molina lasted just 1 2/3 innings, but Josh Rogers (1-0), who had been called up before the game, stepped in and allowed two runs and four hits over five innings. Jalen Beeks closed out the game, allowing one run in the ninth to earn his fifth save.

Jose Ramirez remained hot at the plate for the Guardians, hitting two doubles and driving in two runs, bringing his season total to a major league-leading 54 RBIs. Tyler Freeman added three hits, and Bo Naylor had two hits in the loss.

Brewers 5, Cubs 1
Willy Adames launched a three-run homer, and rookie Robert Gasser pitched six-plus scoreless innings, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-1 win over the visiting Chicago Cubs. This game marked Cubs manager Craig Counsell's first return to Milwaukee after managing the Brewers for most of the past nine seasons. Counsell was met with boos during the pregame introductions.

The Brewers were shut out through seven innings by Cubs starter Justin Steele but erupted for five runs in the eighth inning off the bullpen. Mark Leiter Jr. (1-3) took the loss for the Cubs.

Orioles 11, Red Sox 3
Kyle Stowers drove in four runs, and Cole Irvin pitched five shutout innings as the Baltimore Orioles crushed the visiting Boston Red Sox 11-3. Adley Rutschman added two RBIs, and Cedric Mullins hit a two-run triple, contributing to Baltimore’s fifth straight win.

Boston, down 11-0, managed to get on the board in the eighth inning with Romy Gonzalez’s three-run triple, his first of the season.

Blue Jays 5, White Sox 1
George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Davis Schneider each homered, and Chris Bassitt pitched five shutout innings to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1. Relievers Nate Pearson, Erik Swanson, Zach Pop, and Genesis Cabrera combined for four innings of one-run relief to secure the win and snap Toronto’s three-game losing streak.

The White Sox have now lost six straight games and 10 of their last 11, being held to two runs or fewer in six of those losses.
