MLB roundup: St. Louis Cardinals Prevail on Nolan Gorman's walk-off home run

Nolan Gorman's walk-off two-run homer in the ninth inning secured a 5-3 win for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lars Nootbaar and Paul Goldschmidt also contributed to the victory, with Nootbaar driving in two runs and Goldschmidt hitting a home run. St. Louis pitcher Lance Lynn gave up three runs in five innings.

Ryan Helsley, the fourth pitcher for the Cardinals, pitched a scoreless ninth inning to claim the win. Eugenio Suarez had a strong performance for the Diamondbacks, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Despite his efforts, Arizona suffered their fourth loss in six games. Starter Brandon Pfaadt allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings, while reliever Ryan Thompson took the loss after giving up one run in one-plus innings.

Athletics 2, Yankees 0

In a thrilling game, the Athletics emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over the Yankees. The highlight of the match came in the ninth inning when Zack Gelof smashed a two-run home run, propelling Oakland to the lead.

Despite a slip by Victor Gonzalez while fielding, Gelof's powerful hit found its way into the right-center field seats. The Athletics' closer, Mason Miller, sealed the deal by striking out the side in the ninth, securing his fifth save of the season.

Notably, Miller showcased his impressive pitching skills, reaching speeds of 103 mph and 102 mph on consecutive strikeouts of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, respectively.

The game started with an unexpected incident as Oakland's leadoff man, Esteury Ruiz, was hit by a pitch, leading to the ejection of New York manager Aaron Boone.

Plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt made the controversial decision to toss Boone from the game, despite the manager's claim that he hadn't said anything. Boone pointed to a fan who had allegedly made a comment, but Wendelstedt remained firm in his decision, stating, "I don't care who said it, you're gone."

Orioles 4, Angels 2

In a closely contested match, the Orioles secured a 4-2 victory over the Angels in Anaheim, California. Albert Suarez delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Baltimore. However, it was Craig Kimbrel's clutch strikeout of Mike Trout with the bases loaded that sealed the win for the Orioles in the series opener.

James McCann and Colton Cowser provided the offensive firepower for Baltimore, both hitting home runs. This victory marked the Orioles' third consecutive win and improved their record to an impressive 7-1 in their last eight games.

Suarez, with five strikeouts to his name, continued his impressive streak of not allowing a single run in 11 1/3 innings this season. Kimbrel, the Orioles' closer, recorded his sixth save of the season.

Despite the efforts of Jo Adell, who hit a home run, and the strong performances of Logan O'Hoppe and Zach Neto with multiple hits, the Angels' losing streak extended to five games. Reid Detmers, the Angels' pitcher, struggled, giving up four runs on six hits in seven innings.

The Minnesota Twins dominated the Chicago White Sox with a 7-0 victory in Minneapolis, led by Chris Paddack's impressive performance on the mound. Paddack struck out 10 batters over seven innings, allowing only six hits and no walks to earn his first win of the season.

Edouard Julien was a standout at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Max Kepler also contributed, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

On the other side, Nicky Lopez and Danny Mendick each had two hits for the struggling White Sox, who have now lost 19 of their first 22 games of the season. White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon struggled, giving up six runs on nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings, taking the loss.

In Denver, the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from Dylan Cease. Cease pitched seven innings, allowing only one hit and one run while striking out eight batters.

Tyler Wade's eighth-inning single off Nick Mears proved to be the winning run for the Padres. Jurickson Profar and Jackson Merrill also drove in runs for San Diego. Ryan McMahon provided the lone run for the Rockies with a sacrifice fly.

Cease's strong outing helped the Padres secure their victory, with Enyel De Los Santos and Robert Suarez closing out the game to secure the win and Suarez's eighth save of the season.
