MLB roundup: White Sox end record home skid with walk-off homer

Andrew Benintendi delivered a walk-off home run, enabling the Chicago White Sox to end their franchise-record home losing streak at 16 games with a 7-6 triumph over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Gavin Sheets also contributed a home run for Chicago, marking their first home victory since August 12. This win represented the White Sox's second walk-off victory of the season, occurring after Oakland had tied the game with three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Gus Varland (1-0) secured the win by pitching a scoreless inning. Nicky Lopez, Luis Robert Jr., Lenyn Sosa, and Benintendi each recorded three hits in the game.
The decisive home run came shortly after Oakland mounted a comeback in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded and no outs against Justin Anderson, two runs crossed the plate when Shea Langeliers reached base due to a fielding error by Sosa. Two batters later, Zack Gelof equalized the score with an RBI single.
In another matchup, the Red Sox triumphed over the Yankees with a score of 7-1. Rafael Devers produced a two-run single after receiving an intentional walk with the bases empty in his previous at-bat, leading Boston to a comfortable victory against New York.
Devers was intentionally walked by Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (6-5) while the Red Sox were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning. According to the YES Network, this marked the earliest intentional walk with no runners on base ever issued by New York.
Masataka Yoshida and Wilyer Abreu followed with RBI hits, propelling Boston to a 3-1 advantage. Devers then added his two-run single in the fifth inning, extending the lead to 5-1. Cole, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, suffered a season-high seven runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.
