Monaco 0-1 Lyon: Jeffinho's late winner takes visitors out of the drop zone

On Friday, struggling Olympique Lyonnais defeated third-placed AS Monaco 1-0 thanks to a late winner from substitute Jefferson Jeffinho in Ligue 1.

Relegation-threatened Lyon had chances to go ahead through Alexandre Lacazette and Clinton Mata, but Ernest Nuamah's 14th-minute effort was ruled out for offside.

Monaco had chances in the first half as well, but goalkeeper Anthony Lopes denied Wilfried Singo and Maghnes Akliouche.

Despite more chances for both teams, Lyon didn't score until the 85th minute, when Jeffinho came on for Nuamah and produced a stunning strike to seal the victory.

Monaco remains third with 30 points, two points ahead of Nice, who visits mid-table Le Havre on Saturday. Paris St Germain leads the table with 36 points heading into Sunday's match against fourth-placed Lille.

Lyon climbs out of the bottom three and into 16th place before hosting Nantes on Wednesday.
