Monte-Carlo Masters Round Up: Draper Out, Fils Stuns Rublev, Alcaraz Rolls On

The Monte-Carlo Masters 2025 continues to deliver thrilling upsets and breakout performances as top contenders like Jack Draper and Andrey Rublev crash out, while rising stars like Arthur Fils, Alex de Minaur, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina take center stage.

Davidovich Fokina Outlasts Draper in Clay-Court Thriller

British No.1 and fifth seed Jack Draper saw his Monte-Carlo run end in heartbreak after a 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4 defeat to Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Despite a valiant fightback in the second set—saving match point and winning a tense tiebreak—Draper couldn’t recover from an early break in the third. Fokina eventually sealed the deal in the 10th game, notching his first top-10 clay win since 2023.

Next up: Fokina faces Alexei Popyrin in the quarter-finals.

Fils Stuns Rublev, Sets Up Quarter-Final Clash with Alcaraz

In one of the biggest shocks of the day, Arthur Fils demolished 2023 Monte-Carlo champion Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-3, advancing to his third straight ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final this year.

At 20, Fils continues to rise with confidence, mixing power with precision to dominate from the baseline. He now faces Carlos Alcaraz—the tournament favorite—who dispatched Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-1 in his own dominant performance.

Fils on facing Alcaraz: "It’s my first time playing him. He’s a big champion—he’s already won four Slams. I haven’t won one yet. It’ll be a good experience."

De Minaur Crushes Medvedev in Clay-Court Statement

Australian No.1 Alex de Minaur dismantled world No. 4 Daniil Medvedev with a ruthless 6-2, 6-2 victory. The 10th seed, who historically struggled on clay, showcased newfound comfort and aggression.

“I’m finding my feet on this surface. I can be dangerous,” De Minaur said post-match.

Musetti Outclasses Berrettini in All-Italian Battle

13th seed Lorenzo Musetti emerged victorious in a highly emotional clash with close friend and Davis Cup teammate Matteo Berrettini, winning 6-3, 6-3.

“It’s always tough to play a friend. We’ve shared so many moments here in Monte Carlo where we both live,” Musetti said.

Popyrin Outlasts Ruud in Three-Set Nail-Biter

Australia’s Alexei Popyrin edged past 2024 runner-up Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, setting up a quarter-final with Davidovich Fokina. The 27th-ranked Aussie continues his breakout year on the ATP tour.
